At Grandfather Vano's
27 Pr. Kosygina Tel.: 521-40-31To the east of the city, far from the hustle and bustle of the centre, you will find a cosy little inn called "U Dedushki Vano, ("At Grandfather Vano's"). All those that live in the vicinity love coming to this restaurant. Guests are invariably guaranteed a warm reception and fine cuisine excellently prepared.
The cuisine is Caucasian, and the atmosphere is surprisingly homelike. Grandfather Vano is brought to mind by the Georgian national costume on the wall beside the impressive red counter and by the Georgian cordiality with which guests are greeted.
You can sit in pleasant surroundings at a red wood table under the not too bright light of a lamp, enjoying a superb supper and listening to the live music played here every evening. In the daytime you can imagine that n old gramophone is playing just like the one that Grandfather Vano used in times long past. "At Grandfather Vano's" is a particularly good place to go with a large group: banquets, weddings and birthday celebrations really go with a swing here.
The Georgian cuisine is always delicious: khachapuri, chebureki, satsivi and chanakhi, a variety of meat and fish kebabs - all this, accompanied by Georgian wine, will make any meal a special occasion. The menu also has a European section. The dishes that are especially delicious are a salad "From Paul" with beef and olives, tender parboiled salmon, and nourishing pike perch with mushroom sauce.
The wine list is quite extensive, featuring wines from Moldavia and Georgia , but also from France , Spain and Chile .
